Overview Frequently Asked Questions

Meet Now Button

What will I see in Overview when I launch a meeting from ‘Meet Now?’
What you will see in Overview once you’ve launched your meeting will vary depending on which type of meeting you have started.

  • Status
When you launch and enter a meeting, you will see your Teams status will change to red, indicating that you are currently in a call.

  • Live and Recent Meetings array
Any Instant or Channel meetings that you start will display in the Live and Recent Meetings array. Direct calls will not appear on this display, as Teams categorizes these as a ‘call’ rather than a ‘meeting.’ Anyone specifically invited or associated with the channel can hover over the meeting tile and click ‘Join’ to enter the meeting.

Why do meetings that I start from the ‘Meet Now’ button not display in my calendar column?
Meetings that display in the calendar column are a combination of the meetings present on your Outlook and Teams calendars. When using the ‘Meet now’ button, you are creating a new meeting without scheduling through either of your calendars. As a result, your calendars do not have this meeting information to display.

If you would like to ensure that a meeting displays in your calendar column, you must schedule it through Outlook calendar or Teams calendar. An approximate workaround for an Instant Meeting that also displays on your calendar column would be to schedule a meeting for your present time, open the meeting, and invite attendees from within the call- just as you would with an Instant Meeting through the Meet Now modal.

Live and Recent Meetings Array

What meetings are visible on the Live and Recent Meetings array? Who are they visible to?

The current meetings array populates differently for individual users depending on their membership to channels and whether or not they appear on the invitation list or group for a meeting.

A channel meeting in session will not display for a person who is not a member of that channel. A scheduled meeting will not display for someone who is not part of the invitation list.

To ensure that meetings are visible and open to all users within your Teams tenant, we recommend using an ‘all company’ listserv when creating a meeting. This can be applied in advance when scheduling a meeting through Outlook or Teams calendar, or when starting an instant meeting through the ‘Meet now’ modal click here to view a guide on starting a new meeting from Overview.
