About this template

What is an Effort vs. Value template?

Whether you use Agile, Kanban, or have your own take on task and project management, you'll likely find yourself and your team in many discussion around projects or features to tackle next. The Effort vs. Value template is designed to be flexible and can easily grow to fit as many ideas and iterations as your team needs.

Use cards or stickies to place projects or ideas inside the grid. Use tags to designate the department or related products. Nest cards inside one another to designate subtasks or dependent ideas, or use lines to connect related topics, tasks, or projects. Leave with an easy-to-understand value-based ranking of your goals.

Creating your own Effort vs. Value template

Utilize the Effort vs. Value template during a variety of project management workflows. Arrange and prioritize large goals or smaller tasks so you can begin tackling them faster.

High Value - High Effort

The upper right quadrant of high value and high effort tasks consist of those worth doing, but they will take dedicated time to complete. Often these tasks or ideas will deliver the most value to your customers or towards your end goal.

High Value - Low Effort

The upper left quadrant consisting of high value and low effort tasks is where you will find low hanging fruit. These easy tasks will should likely take less time to complete while still delivering a great deal of value towards your goals.

Low Value - High Effort

In the low value, high effort quadrant in the lower right, you'll find larger or more challenging tasks that may or may not be necessary to complete, but will take significantly more time.

Low Value - Low Effort

The last quadrant in the lower left of the grid for low value, low effort items is where you will place easy, but less valuable items. While these are likely to be quick and may still be worth completing, they are not a top priority as they likely deliver less value towards your goals.
